I bought this last week but I have not installed it yet mainly because for all practical purposes there are no instructions. For those of us buying our first Goldwing and not mechanically inclined it is essential to see some pictures showing which bolts we have to take out and what size socket to use.

I'm guessing that the socket must be a metric deep well which I don't own so now I have to buy more tools.

For all the money that they charged for a piece of aluminum, a more customer-focused company would've included pictures and a cheap socket to use for this purpose.

This is my second unit of this type and again, install was easy and fast. The dzus fittings can be undone or done up with a dime if you haven't got a screw driver short enough which is handy. One thing though, the unit I received was not aluminium. It was actually 304 austenitic stainless steel which is much better in my opinion. Although it weighs a little more, it has greater structural rigidity than alloy and will not corrode or pit like alloy over the long haul.

I have had this pan for a couple of years. As other reviewers have indicated, you will feel the heat on the ankles and feet. I cut several louvers into the pan (both pieces) and the heat did in fact diminish. The pan has prevented possible damage to the underside on a couple of occasions as evidenced by the rather large dents in the unit. Almost time for a new one.....the louvered model.

Update. This is obviously a great idea and it does protect the undercarriage and vital parts exposed to road debris. I have a gash in mine which means it did the job it was intended for. The only downside is the fact that it retains the heat. It is a blessing when it is cold but when riding through LA & TX last summer it almost becomes unbearable. If they had had the louvered belly pan last year when it purchased this I would have gone for that one. You need to dispurse all that additional trapped heat. Go for the louvered ones. A fix is to drill holes ormake your own louvers. Still a great product and great idea.

I originally reviewed this belly Pan 10/1/08. I could feel a little extra heat then but it wasn't a problem, the temps were below 75. But now that I have ridden with the temps over 80, I must say the heat on my feet is an issue. My boots get very warm on the pegs so I must use my highway pegs to cool my feet off every chance I get. My wife says she can feel the heat on her feet an lower legs on the passenger boards when ridding in town. I have ordered the stainless steel pan with louvers to replace this one. I highly recommend you get a belly pan to protect the underside of your wing. Just make sure you get a louvered one unless you always ride in cool temps.

This pan works great, and very easy to install. The added protections helps to give you peace of mind. This should be a standard stock item on the bike direct from the factory.

Easy install, stops wind buffering from trucks and helps with crosswinds a little. Extra protection for the bottom of the bike from road gaters.
