Love This Conversion

Just completed the install on my 2012. The instructions were complete and install took about 1.25 hours. I really like having the additional run light and the turn lights on the spoiler. The LEDs doesnt see to be as bright as the OEM ones but they are visible. This ought to be standard on the OEM spoiler light. I have the pulsating brake light light controller on the spoiler as well. It looks a little wierd if the turn signal is on and the brakes are depressed, everything is flashing for a few seconds. That ought to let em know something is happening ahead. I will give this product 5 stars only because I can't give it more.

This LED replacement for the OEM spoiler (see my separate review of the spoiler - Item # HO08F64MCA1Y1C) is easy to install – just unscrew and remove the OEM LED unit and replace with this one. You have to reuse some of the OEM hardware. The wires are shorter than the OEM so make sure you route the sub-harness in such a way to give you enough slack to reach the connectors under the trunk lid. Don’t cable-tie them until you’ve completed the wiring.

I only received 2 of the 3 installation pages. Page 2 ends with how to route the sub-harness and a reference to a picture on page 3. There is no mention of how to connect the wires to the connectors behind the rear wheel under the license plate so I had to experiment with them until I got it working.

The running lights did not work at all. I used the trunk always-on 12V connector as source to provide power to each of the black, white and yellow sub-harness wires to discover that the black is the one for the running LED’s. With the ignition on and using a multimeter I discovered that the black wire was dead.

After testing other wires at the bike-side of the 3-point connector on the supplied sub-harness I discovered that the centre black wire is the live one and not the one on the side as supplied. You will need to cut the black wire of the supplied sub-harness and tap it to the black wire in the middle of the socket on the sub-harness side. If you don’t need the running lights then you can leave it as it is. The rest will work as designed. I decided not to connect the running lights as I don’t ride at night. Brake and turning signals are more important to me to stop people from tailgating me.

Besides the missing instructions page and having wiring issues, I’m still very happy with the end result. It really makes you more visible to other vehicles. You definitely need this if you tow a trailer.

5 Stars for overall satisfaction but 2 stars off for a waste of my time having to figure out how to connect the wires (and blowing a fuse in the process!). For the price you expect better quality control to ensure correct wiring and full instructions.

Just completed installation of the EC01320 and all went pretty well. I had ordered a new Hondaline spoiler and the EC01320 from Wingstuff. Installation for all was straight forward. Did have to call EC, as mentioned in other reviews, page 3 of the installation instructions for the EC01320 was missing in the package. After the conversation with the gentlemen from EC, received the complete instruction set in email and completed the install with no problem.

Fairly straight forward install. Would be very easy except you have to remove the rear passenger backrest, seat and rear fender which takes time. Plug and play with the wiring. The new LEDs are great. Very bright and love the turn signals, running light, and brake light. Really lights up the rear of the bike. Really like the idea of having a turn signal at eye level especially if you have a trailer. Product itself is 5 stars. Oh, as suggested below, route the wires up instead of down. Easier with the smaller end caps to go up.

Gave it 4 stars only because of apparent issues at Electrical Connection. Product was on backorder over 1 month. When I called EC to find out the status of the backorder, they were not well organized and were confused at best. Had no idea when they were going to fill the orders to Wingstuff, probably one of their biggest customers. Finally received the product and it was minus the cable ties and only had one page of instructions - at least one page more should have been included as the instructions referenced a photo at the end which simply wasn't there. This is the 2nd EC part I have ordered. I cancelled the first order after being on back order for several months.

I installed this at the same time as fitting the OEM spoiler. Install is easy and straight forward but do read the instructions carefully. I also suggest that you feed the cable "up" from the rear rather than down from the top. That way you are only dealing with a small end on the cable not the plugs. Caution the cable is only just long enough so don't put the cable ties on until finished.
I had a problem .. no running light. Contacted EC .. Lewis answered almost immediately. Problem solved, it appears that some model GL1800's exported, don't have saddlebag running lights (mine doesn't, I'm in New Zealand) in which case you have to cut the black wire and join it to the tail light feed (its right there so no extra wire needed) ... problem fixed.. EC may need to update instructions to allow for overseas clients.
Top support from EC & Lewis I couldn't ask for more. Very pleased with outcome.. by the way also used two small bits of double sided tape to help share the load off the little brackets.
