I read another review that gave this bag one star and said they threw their money away.
I purchased one hoping I could use it on both the gl1800 '08 and the Suzuki Burgman with the ever-present hump bag.
I used this setup for a 3800 mile, 8 day tour of the West and it worked fine for me. I have short legs and am 5' 7" so YMMV, but I found the unit to be versatile.
The saddlebags worked best for me by providing accessable storage for all sorts of items.
Another reviewer said they were right in his leg's way, but I found them to be no problem. This may relate directly to my stature.
The unit is well made and did not scratch my paint in any way.
The tank bag is a bit too large, but it is easily removed if you don't like it. Same for the map pouch. I have a GPS, but use the pouch for receipt storage.
You can use either the map pouch or the tank bag by their selves or in combination. Nice flexability.
All of my gripes were in the "getting used to it" category and most of them are now history after 3800 miles.
My only remaning problem is with the velcro adhesive used to secure the saddlebags inside the gas tank. They won't stay stuck, but I've solved this problem before with some industrial strength velcro purchased from the local home store.
Worst case is to glue the velcro on with silicone sealant after cleaning both surfaces with isoproply alcohol.
All in all I like the unit and will use it. It also fits my Burgman 650. It fits nicely over the ever-present hump bag and provides easily transferable common items between the two bikes.
YMMV!
