I bought two of these helmets a year ago for me and my wife. After 14000 miles of riding I love the helmet. It is only a little heavier than my regular open face helmet. The modular system is very nice and easy to operate. It is a great open face helmet and easly converts to a closed helmet even when riding on the bike, even thought they tell you to stop to make the change. We had the J&M speakers install by Wingstuff and we could not be happyier. We have not notice any wind sound in the closed mode. The only draw back my wife and I both experience is a draft down the back of our necks when it is in open face mode. The sun shield should go a little lower but if you slide the helmet forward and down ever so slightly on your head it is in perfect postion. I did have to take mine back because the sun shield developed scratches on it everytime it was opened. Wingstuff replaced the whole helmet. After a year of use I have notice a little tiny scratch in the sun shield again but not like before and it is not noticable with the sun shield down. I had looked at all the modular helmets on the market and I am very happy with the Shark.

Nice fit and does it's job well!!! A couple weeks ago, I hit a deer while doing about 40 MPH. I went down hard on a low side fall. The Shark helmet protected the entire left side of my head and face... not a bruise or mark. Where the marks were on the helmet, if I were wearing a half-helmet, most of the left side of face would be on the asphalt.

I have to say, the service from Wingstuff was OUTSTANDING on this order! I called Wednesday around noon and discussed my order with Cameron. He explained how he installed the J&M Elite headset and also how he could use the better, thicker speakers than he could with the Nolan helmets. With my bike arriving the next day, I really wanted my helmets before the weekend. Fortunately, Cameron was able to configure the helmets and get my order shipped that same day! Thursday morning, UPS was at my doorstep!!!

I would highly recommend having Wingstuff handle the headset install on this helmet. To do it right requires drilling a hole and who knows what else. The microphone is a boom mic and it stays in position for both the open face and closed helmet configurations. Very nice mic, you can't even tell it's there when you're wearing the helmet.

As for the helmets, of course they're much heavier than a pure open face helmet and probably a bit heavier than a straight closed helmet, but being able to have both in one helmet makes it worth it IMO.

If you're at all close to the size boundary, then I would recommend going up to the next size up. Both my wife and I are around 23" and XL was snug on both of us. Hopefully Shark will come out with a 2XL soon for those with larger heads, not to mention more colors.

Hmmm...

So far this one's getting a mixed review...

Really admire Shark for taking the next step with all the features of this helmet. I've seen the inside construction of their helmets when I custom painted a solid helmet for a friend. I was impressed by their crumple-factor which translated to me crash-ability and safety. With this kind of safety and all these feature I was really looking forward to riding with this.
However, 300 miles into the first ride out one of the integral plastic parts of the helmet went flying off in the night. Shiny black part lost on a rainy night on the downhill side of a mountainous toll road in northern Japan with truckers riding your rear = flat out lost part that was hopeless to go back and try to find.
Immediately I was able to deduce what had happened… So the rest of you that own one of these be wary. This integral part is the one that is directly top center of the forehead where the slide for the tinted shade is. In my case I was attempting to open my clear visor shield and the tab is located on top center of the clear visor. To open this while riding a rider must place his left hand on the top of the helmet and tug at the visor tab with a fingertip while bracing with the thumb. Warning: Trying to open while riding can cause this small plastic accent cover cover for the tinted shield to become dislocated in the same manner of a purposeful removal. Not cool because without this part the helmet is also useless since the slide for the tinted visor now sticks up in the air like a quail feather.
Now all of this I would consider a minor issue that can easily be rectified. So I wrote to the Shark helmets. This is part leads me to post a mixed review. Matter of a fact is starting to make me a little upset since I’ve written twice and received no response. So now I’m letting all of you know if you buy this helmet then you need buy a tube of superglue to go along with it. Additionally you could find it helpful to relocate another tab somewhere else on the clear visor. It never seemed natural to reach that high on the noggin’ to simply open your shield.

If Shark ever gets back with me at huckleberryzhighwayz@hotmail.com to resolve this then cool. Until then the $300 helmet sits in the shed and I’ll continue to post a bad reviews in the riding community mostly because of poor customer support.

Picked up 2 of these, one for the Wife and one for myself. I have to say it is much more comfortable then my HJC. Looks, styling, fit, is hard to beat. Had the guys at Wingstuff install the J&M Elite head sets in both could not happier.
