Harsh Riding

I have now had all brands of tires on my 2002 Goldwing. The best handling and riding are the Avons. They also had a very short lifespan.... Metzlers were almost as good as Avons with better life until I drilled a sharp edged hole and separated the tread. So, I thought I would try the new Elite3. They handle well, however they have the HARSHEST ride of any of the Goldwing specific tires. I don't yet know about life or wet weather.

Update - 15000 miles

Purchased the tires a little over a year ago and just replaced them at around 15,000 miles. The rear still had some life in it but I wanted to try something new all around. The dunlops are good and showed great mileage, they do get noisy in the corners as they wear down. Had to replace the front as it was worn on the sides to a smooth tire and center was still fair, I ride a little aggressive. They only started tracking wet tar snakes in the last 1000 miles and also developed a high speed wobble when my hands were off the bars, it was not noticeable when I had my hands on the bars. Overall, I am pleased with the E3s and may come back to them if the new stones I just got don't perform to my liking, but I'll let time be the judge of that.

Good Wear, Decent Handling, Big Noise

Purchased my bike used with only 1600 miles on it. Replaced the tires at 4400 miles since I was going on an extended 12k run and the stock front tire was especially showing wear and didn't want to chance replacing the tires somewhere along the route especially in Canada (read big bucks $$$). Ordered the E3 radials and had them installed. So far I have 17,000 miles on them and they still look good for another 5k or more?? Handling has been good in all sorts of conditions but I don't push it in the rain. Only complaint is that around 12k the tires starting humming like a banshee on turns. I mean loud! I put on the Centramatic wheel balancers about 4k ago and the noise has dissipated somewhat over those miles but they still have a hum. Perhaps the wheel balancers have allowed the tires to wear more evenly reducing the noise level. In any case, I purchased a set of Bridgestones to replace the E3's before summer rolls along as we have several tours planned and will see how they compare.

going to to the Stones

went to the Elites after reading up on them. Really were a disappointment. Didn't wear as well and noisey as hell- Going back to the OEM BridgeStones.

These E3's are an excellent tire for the tall task of keeping the massive Goldwing planted. I've have had them on the track and ridden "knee down" in turns. I only get around 9-10k miles on them, but I use them hard and to get a longer lasting tire means harder rubber that won't stick as well. I'd rather slide my credit card out of my wallet more often than slide the bike out from under me. Until I hear of something better, I'm "stuck" on these. (I've also had pretty good experiences with Metzeler ME880's.)

I have had 2 sets of the Elite 3's. I never got over 10,000 miles on ether set before the front tire was noisy, cupped and caused low speed front end wobble. The rear tire was slick left of center while right of center had good tread left. The front tire was also wearing left of center but not as bad as the rear. I checked the tire pressure once a week and I also have tire pressure monitors in the tires. The tires handled great when new but slowly got worst. I think I will try a different brand of tire this time.

Just replaced both e-3's on my wing. front had 24,000 plus and the rear at 14,000 is still good for a spare. these are the tire of choice period for my bike. I do long rides through southwestern states and never a bit of a problem.
