Digital Music Player Software

The digital music player software was designed specifically for the Honda GoldWing motorcycle and Bike MP3 to minimize problems with improperly loading music and overloading the USB/SD memory device with the incorrect configuration of CD volumes and tracks. Compatible with all Microsoft Windows operating systems, will not work on Mac.

NEW for September 2011 -- This new Media Player version allows the user to "right-click" on a song track and preview the music directly on their computer. To stop the music simply requires a "right-double-click".  The player also solves many of the hardware problems with loading USB thumb drives experienced with earlier J&M and BikeMP3 versions.

This new software tool allows one to find all of the MP3/WMA songs on their hard drive and provides an easy method for organizing and loading the virtual CDs. The software also provides the ability for you to control the order that the music plays and is determined when populating the memory card.

WingStuff recommends purchasing the companion software with the Bike MP3 Digital Music Player to minimize problems with populating the USB/SD memory device. The software is easy to use and quickly populates your memory device and gets you on the road to quick music listening.

New Laptop Software Version -- The software package comes with an additional version sized for smaller laptop screens sized for 800x600 resolution. When you install the software, you will see two icons on the screen for each version.

Media Player and Software

I am a professional mechanic, both for cars and motorcycles. So far this unit is working very nicely. The online installation video is very easy to follow and the unit is small and mounts inside the left side of the trunk with Velcro allowing easy access to change the media card or plug in another audio device. The sound is fabulous and the factory CD controls allow you to change tracks or folders with the same button. Although it is listed for 9 folders, the bike actually displays 10, 0 through 9 and the device itself will accept and play 16 folders with 99 songs each although the display will not be accurate to the track. Now, many folks have criticized the software and have said you can accomplish the same thing in Windows Explorer. I am not a "computer" person but I can make my way around a computer easily so I don't know how to do that. If you are a "computer" person then you may not need the software. I however, found the software very easy to use to move music anywhere I wanted and back again. It also allows you to shuffle the songs after they are in a folder or with one click, it will pick 99 random songs from your files and load them with one click and it allows you to save the folders after you are done. I think the software is money well spent. My only complaint would be that the written instructions included are insufficient to get the device installed. Only after I watched the video did I see where they intend for you to route the cable to the factory plug. Their installation has you filing a small groove through a corner of the trunk bulkhead after separating it from the trunk side. It does work but I would have preferred if they had included the correct 28MM grommet that is used to pass this plug through the bulkhead when the factory CD changer is installed as it would be more water resistant. Their method requires you to file through a small portion of the rubber seal between the panels so only file enough material away to clear the cable without pinching to retain water resistance here and a dab of black silicone doesn't hurt when you reassemble. All in all, a very nice affordable product, good job.

Response to the Response

This is not a flame response in anyway and I give 5 Stars for defending the product; heck I would do the same if I were the designer or believed in the product.

The great thing is as a consumer you have the ability to test which method will work best for you.

You can download the free version available on this site and give it a try. The free version only allows you to move a limited number of files.Use the software as intended and upload files to a SD or USB drive. Open that SD or USB drive and look at the folders and music you moved over.

Now, on a seperate SD or USB drive, create the same number of folders, named the same, then open your source folder (where you keep your music)and drag the same files over.

I consider myself computer savy, so for me the second option worked just fine, took less time, and I was able to sort and scramble music simply by using the sorting functions that are already on your PC or MAC.

If you are not computer savy then purchase the software as it does what the designer intended.

Good luck!!

Song Populating Software Response

The song populating software tool was designed specifically for loading J&M, BikeMP3 and automotive in-dash MP3 players. Sure, you can do the folders manually, but the software makes it simple and easy while reducing mistakes and errors. There are several features not mentioned in the previous reviews:

1. The software searches and loads all of your music into a single source list showing title, artist, album and genre.
2. The source and destination lists can be sorted by title, artist, album or genre by simply clicking the button at the top of the column.
3. Simply right-mouse clicking on a song title starts playing the music so that it can be previewed. A double right mouse click stops the music.
4. Songs can be added or removed from the CD list by simply dragging and dropping between the source and destination. Song track play order can be changed by dragging and dropping within the same window.
5. The "Find" dialog allows one to search for strings in a song title and/or search for genre. If you own 1000's of songs, this feature comes in handy.
6. Once you've loaded the flash drive, the configuration can be saved and restored later making the process completely repeatable thus simplifying the reuse of flash drives.

The ability to burn "audio" or "music" CD-ROMs was not included in the design because there are already iTunes and Windows Media Player. The software can be used to create a "data" or "MP3" CD-ROM by simply pointing the destination drive to the writeable CD-ROM and using the Windows File Explorer to close and finalize the disk when the copy has finished. Some of the newer automotive CD players can handle both "data" and "audio" CD-ROMs.

Player Worth It; Software not so much

I purchased the player and the software combo and will review them seperately.

The Player:
Arrived in a timely fashion, as has been the case for all of the products I order from Wingstuff. Very, and I mean very, easy to install. I chose to install it, using the provided velcro, on the left side of the trunk; however I installed it so that it angles up at 45 degrees so you can easily see and access where the SD or USD installs. Remove the seat, plug it into the ONLY plug it will fit on, route the cable as seen in the video, and connect.

The Software:
Save your money; honestly. You download it from this website and then unlock it using your email address and a code emailed to you (if you are lucky; mine never came and I had to email Wingstuff to get it). The software asks you what player you have (MP3 V3 in my case) then it asks you what year range your bike is in (2006 to 2011 > Mine is a 2007). This is so it can determine how many CD folders you will get on your SD or USB Flash Drive. My bike gets me 9 folders according to the software x 99 tracks per folder. So after spending an hour of loading up an 8 Gb card I installed it and the MP3 works like a charm.

Here is my issue with the software and why I think you should skip buying it. On your SD or USB it simply creates CD folders (i.e. CD1, CD2, CD3, etc) and then 99 tracks in each folder....that's it folks, that is all it does. Format, or blank out your SD or USB, create the number of folders for your bike's age (again mine was 9 folders)and then simply move music into each of them being careful to make sure that each folder is 99 tracks or less). If you are not comfortable with doing this on a PC then send me an email on here and I'll be glad to walk you through it. I do agree with another reviewer, if this software converted formats, or offered the abilty to rip to CD, then the price might be worth it.

Summary:
The MP3 player was probably the best aftermarket component I have installed to date. Having access to 800+ songs on those long rides where the radio just does not do the job is worth the $109 (non ABS). The software: save your month and apply that to some more chrome!!
