You can see my first review on 8/20/11. Update: still very unhappy. The system worked great when I installed it and before I "tried" to up load music to the SD card. The test music that came on the card played great. Then I made the mistake of trying to upload music on it. Now nothing. I try to carry my phone in my shirt pocket with it set on vibrate so I "feel" a call coming in so I can switch from FM to CD and catch the call. The blue tooth phone works great but you can't leave it on CD to pick up a call and have your favorite music the rest of the time.
In September I talked Sierra Electronics into putting the SD Card into their computer can checking it out. They couldn't find anything to fix the issue.
J&M wants to be one of the big boys but their customer service STINKS. I have called and called them trying to find a solution. Every time I get a grouchy old man that acts like I am screwing up his entire life. There has to be something that can be done to him make this player work and it shouldn't be a major deal.
They have the chance to have a great product at a good price but they need some type of descent customer service that can help idiots like myself download music that plays. I find it hard to believe that it is all me when Sierra couldn't find the problem.
I acquired my bluetooth/music player almost a year ago, replacing my previous mp3-only device acquired the year before that. Both mp3 players were equally unreliable - tendency to lock up for no apparent reason, skipping songs either partially or fully, unpredictable behaviour when changing directories (CD's). When it works, the sound is fine. I am ready to abandon using the JM mp3 player in favour of the android music player on the phone.
The cell phone integration for the most part works as advertised. The microphone that came with my JM headset works so well that frequently the people at the other end don't realize I am riding down the highway at 100km/h.
I got the player this afternoon and started installing it immediately. The instructions could have been better but I figured out where the headset cords plugged in by following the cords. I made 8 folders on an 8GB SD card and put 99 songs in each one. It worked very well. I discovered that the root directory is actually CD1. The instructions weren't clear on that but did state that the SD card wouldn't work unless there was at least 1 MP3 file in the root directory.
I got my phone out and paired it with the J&M Bluetooth. It took 2 trys because I entered the wrong code the first time. The only "CON" is that you can't dial the phone by voice. I did make an outgoing call and the Bluetooth picked it up.
I have had CD changers on all my Wings but this makes them obsolete. It's faster and easier to put music on the SD card and it doesn't skip or ruin the CD when you hit a big bump. I highly recommend this unit.
After six months and several long trips this unit is still working great. I did discover however, when I plug the unit in to my phone or iPod the music is less audible. When I use the Bluetooth on my phone the music comes in loud and clear. The unit has never locked up and when I bought my new iPhone it discovered the new phone instantly and all is well.
In regard to the phone operation .... the audio is less than desired. I have to turn the volume all the way up to hear but who ever I'm talking to can hear me just fine.
I would still recommend this product. Bluetooth is the way to go.
And we can't wait to show you how it's done!
