I have used this product since November of 2013 and its July 2014. I have tried everything I can think of to get this to work 100% of the time, however, at best I get it to work 50% of the time. I've tried starting the bike up right away. Starting the bike up after turning on the key and letting it "hook up." I tried turning the key on then turning it back off, waiting, then turning it back on. No matter what I try, 50%. I have good luck when turning it on in my garage on my way to work and listen to music riding in. However, when heading home in the evening I rarely get to listen to music. I'm still trying to figure out what the difference is but so far, because of this, I'll have to lower my satisfaction to 3 stars and that's being nice. I've learned some new curse words working with this. I am using a 4gig SD card with the folders setup and less than 99 songs in a folder (much less, actually). I've tried two different brands of SD cards. Frustrated. However, when it works its 5-stars but working 50% of the time, I'll have to give it 2.5-stars.
I received this unit on 6/14/14 and installed it on my 2005 Gl1800 and player worked but on bluetooth phone calls the caller could not hear me but i could hear them. After several days of no contact with Bike mp3 on the phone and left several messages. And called Wing Stuff and they left messages and no answer. I emailed them and they responded immediately. It was determined that they sent the wrong headset adapter cable and said they would send me a replacement.Well that was 6/16/14 and still no cable and I have sent more e-mails and still no cable. This will be the last Bike MP3 product I'll ever buy.
Started out looking for an MP3 player. When I saw this, I thought it would be worth the extra $$ to have the Bluetooth. The MP3 works well but the mic cable that comes with the Bluetooth induces noise thought the entire audio system.
The issue here is the Bluetooth induces a horrible whine/buzzing noise into my entire system when the mic cable is plugged into the bike wiring harness. I can hear the pitch and frequency change as I rev the engine…
I contacted BikeMP3 and they just sent me an email that said to reroute the cables. I have had the bike apart three times rerouting cables with no change at all. I either need further help with this problem or an exchange for a new unit.
Buy the mp3 player and do not waste your $$ on the extra Bluetooth function, you will just disconnect it anyway to get rid of the noise. As I started researching, I see this is a common problem with this unit however I was surprised on the lack of support I have gotten with resolving my issue.
I have been chewed out for not answering my cell phone more times than I can count but no more! I installed the unit without taking anything off that did not snap off except the seat, I'm lazy that way. I was able to fish the cable from the left pocket to under the seat with a firm coated wire.
This unit does exactly what it says it will do and I love it! One person said that you could not use SDHC cards and my SDHC cards (SanDisk) works just fine as long as it is formatted FAT 32. Sound is good from mp3 player and from cell phone. The people that I am talking too on the phone don't know that I'm riding the Wing until I tell them.
I printed the instructions off the web, you'll need both sets. I had no problems with the installation instructions, I thought they explained everything you just have to read them very carefully.
I think this unit is worth every dime. It lacks the ability to make voice calls while riding, however, I never call anyone while riding, I only accept calls so it is not a negative for me, especially for the price.
Now I can answer my phone and listen to digital music directly from my 2010 bike. Directions from Bike MP3 could be better put all in all nice unit. That being said here are some things you my need to know.
Bike years 2006-present; When setting up your music on the SD card create 9 folders and name them, starting with 'CD1' and ending with 'CD9'. The bike will not be able to read them if you don't do this. You can install up to 99 songs in each folder.
Bike years 2001-2005; Create 6 folders same as above. The songs are also limited, not sure of amount you can load.
I used 2GB SD cards. These will give you more music than you will be able to listen to in one day. Do not use SD-HC cards, it can not read them!
I installed the unit in the lower compartment of the travel trunk by cutting a hole, behind the seat, big enough to fit the plugs through.
I have an older Droid X phone and use a docking station to hold it on the bike. It is mounted to the handle bars and allows me to see who is calling. The button to answer works well but does not allow me to activate my voice commands on my phone to call out. I changed my settings on the phone and set up a short cut to my voice commands, problem solved.
I am very happy with this unit. It does every thing it says it will. I just wish Bike MP3 was a little better with directions.
Lastly, the only directions for installation you get, you will have to find on line at Bike PM3.
And we can't wait to show you how it's done!
